NJ Home Remodeling Contractor
Questions You Should Be Asking

Here are some questions you should ask the New Jersey home remodeling contractors that you are considering.

Are they a licensed remodeling contractor in New Jersey?  This should be one of the first questions you ask the contractor.  You can check to see if a company is licensed by doing a search on the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs website.

To make sure that our company, JDC Home Remodeling, is licensed in New Jersey, go to New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs and...

1) Where it says NAME, type the letters: JDC.

2) And where is says city, type: Garfield.

3) Click on the search button and you will see our business license.

Our license number is - 13VH03883300

Will my project require a permit? Most localities require permits for building projects, even for simple jobs like decks. A competent contractor will get all the necessary permits before starting work on your project.

Can they give you a list of at least three references? The contractor should be able to give you the names, addresses, and phone numbers of at least three clients who have projects similar to yours.

Will they be using subcontractors on this project? If yes, ask to see current insurance coverage and licenses, for the subcontractors.

What types of insurance do you carry? Contractors should have personal liability, worker’s compensation, and property damage coverage. Ask for copies of insurance certificates, and make sure they’re current.

Avoid doing business with contractors who don’t carry the appropriate insurance. Otherwise, you’ll be held liable for any injuries and damages that occur during the project.
